Product Description The fast, wide-angle to medium telephoto AF-S zoom lens from Nikon is optimized for edge-to-edge sharpness on both the Nikon FX (23.9 x 36mm) and DX-format image sensors, with focus as close as 14.9 inches. Enhanced optical formulas, engineered to produce exceptional sharpness, contrast and color, render outstanding image integrity, while two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and PGM aspherical lenses futher control chromatic aberrations at even the widest aperture settings It has an exclusive Nano Crystal Coat to reduce ghosting and flare for even greater image clarity. The Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables ultra high-speed autofocusing with exceptional accuracy and powerful, super-quiet operation, while the Internal Focus (IF) provides fast and quiet auto focusing without changing the length of the lens and M/A Focus Mode switch enables quick response to changing situations between Auto and Manual focus operation. With all these features, as well as an incredible resilience to dust, water and general wear and tear, the Nikon 24-70mmf/2.8G ED Lens is a welcome way to meet your telephotography needs. Internal Focus (IF) provides auto focusing without changing the length of the lens M/A Focus Mode switch enables quick changing between Auto and Manual focus operation.

Perfect Standard Zoom March 12, 2010 BobMac (Napa Valley) Gave up the 18-200mm's convenience for the 24-70mm's quality. I noticed an immediate difference in image quality with this lens. It's fast to focus, sharp at all apertures, and just a plain joy to use. Only issue with it is its weight, although it's balanced on Nikon's larger bodies.
I love this lens! March 8, 2010 D. Thoris I actually replaced the original Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8 lens with this one because I like to shoot wide open, and the new version is a tad better at maximum aperture, and has less tendency to flare. It's about the same weight as "The Beast" however, so there is no savings there. Because of its better performance wide open, I am using this more than I did the old lens. My cost difference was $500 after I sold the original lens, so I consider it to be a wonderful investment.
Stellar Lens March 5, 2010 Christopher Aram (Powell, OH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Beautiful optics and excellent sharpness, even at 2.8. Bokeh is great though not as good as the 85 1.4 or 70-200 2.8 VR2. I use with my D3 and love, love, love this lens.
Only real downsides in my opinion are (1) lack of VR and (2) distortion that is, in my view, a little bit excessive at extreme ends. However given that this is easily rectified in Photoshop if one needs/wants to be picky about it, not a big deal at all.
I would highly recommend this as a mainstay for any serious Nikon shooter and it is one of two of my primary use lenses (the other being the 70-200 Vr2.)
Superior March 3, 2010 Michael Gordon (Utah) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is big, heavy, and awesome! If you are considering this lens you have probably been inspired by its sharpness or its photographic speed (f2.8). Less obvious is its operational speed; it focuses incredibly fast and silently.
Night performance: Astounding. See the photo of trees and stars in the user gallery.
Its mass actually helps stabilize the camera, so I don't use my monopod nearly as often as I used to. It has become my number one lens mounted most of the time.
Don't break your lens hood trying to get it off. There's a pushbutton to unlock it. No more inadvertent vignetting because your petal-hood has rotated by itself.
I hate fuzzy lenses and fuzzy edges. If I take a photo of a group of people, I want the people on the edges to be as sharp as the ones in the middle, and they want it too. This lens works.
My lens is as perfectly rectilinear at widest angle as I can detect. Its geometry is much better than any of my other zoom lenses and maybe even better than my 28mm prime; though of course, a 28mm prime lens is tiny compared to this beast.

I'll be brief, as what I want to say is what's already been said by many owners of this lens.
I just bought myself one of these behemoths, and love it. The clarity of all of my shots is exquisite. Sharp all the way through, and to all corners. Beautiful.
It has turned my game up ten fold. Serious lens for a serious photographer. This thing isn't cheap, but quality should be worth paying for.
