Excellent backup drive January 6, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
No faults with this nice USB drive. The resident software loaded quickly and flawlessly. Easy to use with the scheduled backups. br /br /Once installed it's one of those rare devices you can essentially forget about. The only down is the provided USB cable should be a bit longer.
Unreliable December 30, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have given up using the Toshiba external drive. It is unbelievably slow, due to its USB connection. If you want to store large files or lots of data, the USB connection is a real disadvantage. More importantly, the drive's erratic behavior has resulted in my losing valuable files and has caused me hours of needless work. Just getting it to connect to and be recognized by my computer was always a problem. However, after a couple month's use, it began to repeatedly and unpredictably appear and disappear from my desktop - sometimes in the middle of saving files. Of course, the files were lost or rendered useless. br /br /I should point out that I've been using the drive with a MacBook Pro, and maybe the drive isn't truly compatible with Mac products. However, you'd never know that from the information on and in the box, both of which say it is Mac-compatible. I have had no trouble with Firelite or Western Digital drives, and would recommend them over this poor piece of engineering.
Great portable drive December 24, 2008 I've had this since earlier this year and used it extensively to transfer homemade video and photo files among my PCs, as well as to back up one of my laptops. Shaped like an iPhone/iPod Touch and weighing about 4.5 oz, it's fast (for a 2.5-inch USB 2.0 drive) and reliable, and easy to carry. It's also whisper-quiet and doesn't get hot like some external drives. It's powered purely by USB 2.0; no AC adapter power possible. I've used it on over a dozen laptops, including old Win2k machines, and have never had a problem. br /br /I'm really happy with this drive and can recommend it without reservation. Now that the 400GB version is going for about 110 dollars, I'm buying that one, too. br /br /(BTW, it comes with backup software for PC and Mac, but for backing up my VAIO laptop I just use Vista's built-in backup utility.)
I am impressed December 22, 2008 This external harddrive right out of the box has worked very well. I have no complaints, and easily recommend it.
great if it worked December 1, 2008 Well afer my WD external NAS drive crashed, i wasnt going to touch that brand again. Toshiba offered a 3 year warrenty on this. That sounded to me like they were convinced it worked. And it was great...for a few months. Then i started randomly "dropping" I thought it was my computer at first because it was having problems, tried it in another and no luck. So i sent it in. After having it in repair for so long that I almost forgot i had it, they sent it back, without its usb cable. hmmm ok, not a huge deal, but curious, so I called them. They dont send the cable back and then sent an email saying the problem is the drive isnt strong enough to be detected by a computer, they were going to send me another cable so that i can plug it into two ports at once, making it detectable. Well, I do have two ports, but they are on opposite ends of my laptop. That will be awkward at best, impossible if the cable they send is as short as the one it comes with. Why would they make a drive without enough power to be detected? So thats two externals out the window? Does anyone make anything reliable anymore?
