A+ - I use this lens with my Nikon D40. The worst I can say for this is that the auto focus is slow in dim light. Other than that, I love this lens. Tips for low light - switch to manual focus.
very good lens January 7, 2009
I bought this to compliment my kit 18-55mm lens. This lens delivers as expected. Nothing comparable out there for the price. However if you have the money, get the 18-200mm VR, it is the only lens you will ever need.

As a long time Nikon camera owner I own a lot of Nikkor Auto Focus Lenses. They work fine on my 35mm Nikon Auto Focus cameras, however when using them own my new Nikon D40 DSLR they will only work in a manual focus mode.br /br /Since my camera came with a 18-55mm lens I decided to order the Nikon 55-200mm lens to cover the majority of photo situations I would encounter.br /br /The new lens is light and compact and like all Nikkor lenses, the quality is excellent. I ordered the VR version of the lens to increase image stabilization and limit any distortion while using the longer focal lengths of the lens.br /br /So far the picture quality is superb even at 200mm. Since going digital I decided to invest in new digital lenses for this camera.br /br /S.Tapperbr /Reisterstown, MD

I already had a 18mm - 55mm lens for my Nikon D50, but there were definitely times when I just couldn't get close enough to my subject to frame it how I wanted. This lens was the natural progression. I've only used it a few times so far, but with fantastic results. I'll be interested to see when the VR comes in handy.
Awesome Lens for Awesome Price December 31, 2008
This lens is wonderful, I just got it today and was so pleased. And at $190 you can't beat the price. I've been looking at different stores for a month know and they are all $250, so when I found this I was pretty skeptical especially never having purchased anything from Amazon. I got free two day shipping for trying out Amazon Prime, and it came right on time. This lens produces beautiful pictures from a good distance. Next on my list is the SB-600.
