4 out of 5 stars very pleased   December 1, 2008
I am a "point and shoot" type of photographer and just need the basics. This is a great camera at a great price.

3 out of 5 stars Poor quality when set on Auto   November 29, 2008

I find picture quality in Auto Mode very disappointing. I am sure there is a way to improve it through one of hundreds of adjustable settings but if you are casual photographer like me this camera may not be the best option.br /Specially inside, when using flash, picture comes out washed-out and very dark. Outside pictures on a cloudy day are slightly better. We have twin babies and take a lot of pictures inside, needless to say, my wife is very disappointed. br /Another issue, you can put time stamp on the picture only if you lower quality to 2 MP. I find that really annoying. br /On the good side, it is very fast, it takes pictures almost instantaneously and battery lasts forever. Pictures outside on sunny day are beautiful. br /In my experience, if you are not interested in learning anything about photography and all you want to do is take nice pictures with camera straight out of the box I would not recommend this model. YMMV.

5 out of 5 stars Superb Camera   November 29, 2008
Digital Photography is my number one hobby, and this is the perfect camera to make it fun!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Camera   November 28, 2008

This is the first point and shoot purchased since 2002. After reading numerous reviews both on amazon.com as well as newegg.com, going into Best Buy and playing with all point and shoots available (then reading their reviews), and playing with a friends Canon SD 770, we decided to purchase this model. br /br /Our reasons being:br /1) All point and shoot Canons have the Color Accent feature, which is way too much fun to play with.br /2) The image quality, in our opinion, is equal, if not far superior to all other models we played with. The color was crisper, the image was clearer (mostly due to the IS), and the screen larger.br /3) The price off Amazon.com was by far lower than any other retailer. It put the camera under $200, which was competitively priced, and allowed us to purchase a camera with more features than any other in that range.br /br /So far the battery life has been good, the computer software easy to use, and the camera operation simple to learn. Reading the manual is a must if you plan to do much more than just use automatic.br /br /All in all, no issues, good price, and fun to use!

5 out of 5 stars 10MP Quality! The Ultimate!   November 26, 2008

I ruined my `Nikon 7900' 7.0 megapixel camera after three great years by getting it wet. This was upsetting as I had the SCUBA encasement for that model and a ton of accessories. My nephew turned me onto the `Canon SD790IS' (as it also has an optional SCUBA encasement) and I am very happy. br /br /It has more megapixels (10.0) which is top of the line for pixel qualtiy meaning crisper pictures with a larger 2.5-inch LCD monitor and tons of extras. There is an "Optical Image Stabilizer" which reduces the blur of any camera movement, even with low light. There is also a cool feature called, "Face Detection WB" which means the camera concentrates upon faces, then it calculates "white balance" for the best colors and tones. You can also just select ONE face among the group to highlight (think Birthday parties)! br /br /There is a cool "red-eye" correction that identifies and corrects red-eye when pictures are taken. You can also later detect and correct "red-eye" during image playback. br /br /The camera is smaller and thinner than my previous Nikon and it fits very easily into any pocket (be careful!). It's quick, easy and responds readily. It is a great value for the price. The pictures are just as good (maybe better) than my old camera. I can't wait to go diving now so I can try the underwater encasement (accessory). You can also buy a less expensive underwater encasement accessory for up to 15 feet of depth for snorkeling and there is a waterproof encasement accessory for rainy day shooting. br /
