The Excursion 10x42E binocular from Bushnell is aimed squarely at other premium Japanese companies' ~$300 42mm roof prism units. They are every bit as good optically with a far more robust construction. The center bridge employs elements from the incredibly tough but discontinued 42mm Elite binocular a truly beloved instrument known for being able to take quite a few knocks. There isn't much not to like about these Excursions; they have excellent handling construction resolution focusing speed and range... in short they are a bona fide winner. The spiffy case comfy strap and tethered lenscaps included in the package are a nice touch. The Bushnell Travel Tunes iPod Dock may not be the first companion device one may think of when shopping for a binocular but a bit of scrutiny will reveal its usefulness. Try to imagine situations or scenarios where one would use a sport optic such as the 10x42 Excursion: casual hiking sporting events car camping backyard wildlife viewing etc. Then contemplate the introduction of portable battery-operated water-resistant speakers to the scene - get the picture?Although this dock has a built-in iPod charging cradle it is compatible with all audio devices that have a 1/8 headphone/line out. Its water-resistant 5 watt 2.25 speakers with Z-Bass boost can be powered either by AC power or by eight C-cell batteries for up to twelve hours. The rugged and rubberized housing is reinforced with seals around all of the exposed ports for protection from the outdoor elements.
