 Great GPS - Gets the basics right! December 1, 2008
I bought the TomTom One 3rd ed refurbished this summer. I've used it for local routes, navigating in cities I'm unfamiliar with and for geocaching. There's a lot to like about this GPS.br /br /First, I'm giving TomTom a gold star for allowing regional updates to the maps instead of having to spend more money on the entire US/Canada. We primarily stay in the Southeast region of the US and I can update that portion of the map at a cheaper rate. Great considering the way the roads constantly change here. br /br /Second, the unit is easy to learn and use. When used primarily for navigation, the unit needs little improvement. I am able to find where I want to go and can set them up as favorites if I don't want to search for them on the road. The day/night color and lighting changes are good and the icons are easy to read and clear. br /br /Finally, the unit's maps and directions are accurate and direct. I've had a few minor issues, but that's to be expected as nothing is perfect.br /br /As a side note, while this is *not* a good unit for geocaching off the beaten path (no features like storing waypoints and tracking trails), it is great for urban caching and has been spot on in marking the locations of the caches around 85% of the time.br /br /I have a couple of small qualms with the unit that would be fixed if I spent more money on a more robust unit. For the beginner or average user not looking for expensive bells and whistles, this unit is a perfect choice.
Refurbished good as new November 26, 2008
Tom Tom makes a super easy to use very intuitive interface for their gps units. I borrowed the Tom Tom One from a friend for a road trip and instantly fell in love and knew I needed to pick one up. $88 for a refurbished unit that still has stickers on it and looks brand new was well worth the money. To top it off, not paying for any services after that makes it a no brainer.

I am amazed how great this works for the price (well, used to work, it now has trouble initially getting a signal).br /The display is very understandable as are the directions. The interface is intuitive.br /The main thing this won't do that I would like is to remember a route after you go to the trouble to get it to route the way you want. You can tell it to avoid specific parts of the default route, and it will do that - for that one trip. The next time you turn it on you have to tell it again. br /Also - mine now takes up to 15 minutes to acquire a signal (its 6 months old). It's not like there are specific places it can't get a signal, it just takes a long time when first turned on. It makes no sense. I didn't put that into my rating, because it might be I just got a dud.
very convenient GPS November 24, 2008
I used to have a Tomtom one and I relied on it a lot,unfortuntly it was stolen. so I decided to get another one. Alother this one is refurbished, it works the same as my privious one.

This is our 2nd GPS and we like this better than our other one! Very easy to enter destinations we love the fact that maps can be updated.
